Hospitality, Fellowship, Community Care
Caring Community
As a church we want to be a community that cares about its members who are not doing well. Some is done by the clergy but they can not do that on their own. Would you like to call somebody who is not doing well and needs support from the church? Do you have time to spend some time to listen to that person?
Hospitality Committee
Committee members are asked to help with a specific food/social event. Committee members volunteer to help with events that suit their schedules. Each event is unique, but all share common responsibilities of planning, purchasing supplies, arranging food, serving and cleaning up. There is no scheduled training. Each event has its own time “on the job” requirements. This allows for a great deal of flexibility for Committee members to choose events and times that suit them. Volunteers welcome!
Newcomers Committee
The purpose of the Newcomer Committee is to help the Church of the Ascension to reach out to newcomers in the greater Munich area, to welcome and invite them into our church family and to support them as they become integrated into our community. Volunteers are needed to fulfill a variety of jobs including greeting new people, preparing a weekly bulletin board, organising materials for newcomers and simply helping new members to feel welcome. Some of these 'jobs' need to be done on a regular basis but we also need occasional volunteers. We will find a place for you that will suit your time frame and ours! Training will be provided. We plan to meet 2 – 3 times per year. Volunteers welcome!
Coffee Hour
The Coffee Hour Helpers prepare and serve coffee, tea, juice and snacks after the Sunday morning worship service to support our time for Christian fellowship. Coffee helpers work one Sunday per month. They bring a homemade or store bought snack with them. They make coffee before the start of the worship service and leave the worship service after they take communion to make two pots of tea and to set out cups, saucers and snacks in the parish hall. They serve the coffee and tea, collect donations for the drinks and snacks and turn the money over to the CoA Treasurer. They collect used cups and saucers and take them to the kitchen. When supplies are low, the “shopper” should be notified. Serving as a Coffee Hour Helper is a good way to meet old and new members of our church family. The Coffee Hour Helper Coordinator recruits coffee hour helpers, schedules training sessions as needed, maintains and distributes a list of coffee hour helpers including substitutes. An hour-long training session is held as needed to train new volunteers. This is usually held before morning worship. Coffee Helpers are on duty for 30-45 minutes after the worship service one Sunday a month. The Coffee Hour Helper Coordinator spends 1-2 hours per month doing his/her job. Volunteers welcome!
Stammtische
Evensong Stammtisch
It had become a tradition that we add some form of fellowship to our services. Since we are meeting for Evensong in the center of Munich, we moved our fellowship to a restaurant near the Old-Catholic Church. There we sit together and enjoy dinner or just something to drink.
Men’s Night Out
On announcement in the bulletin and Ikon about once a month the men are invited to come together for fellowship and talk in a restaurant or beergarden.
